Tokyo Olympics 2020 will be the greenest games ever, the sustainability concept of the games is “Be better, together – for the planet and the people”. Use of renewable energy, zero waste, participation of society etc., are some of the themes the organizers will be working on to ensure sustainability. In another effort, special cardboard beds have been made for the athletes to sleep on during the event.

Japanese bedding maker Airweave Inc., which is an official partner of Tokyo Games 2020 will provide 18,000 beds for the Olympics and 8,000 beds for the Paralympics. The beds are modular and come with three-part polyethylene mattresses for customizable comfort for the upper, mid, and lower body. They will be equipped in the residential buildings of the Athletes’ Village, located in the Harumi waterfront district of Tokyo.

After the Games, the beds will be recycled into paper products and mattress components into new plastic products. Furthermore, the residential buildings at the Athletes’ Village will be renovated and sold as apartments, ensuring sustainability concept of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
