EVOLVE is a flat-pack chair made using 100-percent recycled and recyclable plastic. Designed by London-based designer Tom Robinson, it aims to utilize recycled plastic as an effective construction material. This recycled plastic chair comprises five pieces that attach to each other to deliver an interesting seat.
This project is realized in collaboration with The Good Plastic Company that provided the innovative recycled plastic that is used in the construction. The blackish color of the chair is result of the black plastic of discarded consumer electronics, which is crushed and turned into pallets before being formed into strong plastic sheets.
This process eliminates carbon emissions, petroleum and artificial dyes commonly used when manufacturing virgin plastics. According to the designer, this material has different look and feel from regularly used plastic.
These undyed, recycled plastic sheets are machined into structural components for the chair that can be assembled at home easily using one simple Allen key – all thanks to discreetly integrated robust metal Domino joints. Moreover, the chair’s weatherproof material allows it to be placed both, indoor and outdoor environments.

It is a simple and elegant chair defined by its purposeful and useful details. EVOLVE’s slanted leg base prevents scuffs by gliding easily over rugs and uneven floors. There are also graphical handles allowing the chair to be easily picked up and moved around.
EVOLVE chair‘s material components are made from a single type of plastic, allowing them to be infinitely recycled. Following the circular economy, the chair can be recycled into something else at the end of life.
