Hasu is a Japanese culture-inspired tea table designed by Dieter Mortelmans for Mintjens Furniture Westmalle. This unique piece of furniture has been conceived with the idea to combine the key aspects of tea culture in a contemporary context. It allows preparation, presentation, and gathering in a single furniture unit.

The Hasu table boasts a creative design that allows storing the entire tea collection while also presents it in a professional manner. For preparation, it includes decent storage space to keep all the things needed to prepare and present matcha. Lastly, it also has space for four people to gather around and enjoy the tea together – courtesy of four pull-out stools included in the table.

Hasu table transforms with progress in the tea ritual. At first, 4 upper tabletops are unfolded like an opening lotus flower, symbolizing the start of the ritual. The seats are then taken out from the table and put back after use. When not in use, the table will stand nicely and will not utilize much space.

The table is manufactured using several construction techniques and different types of wood joineries. It consists of solid oak for the body and powder-coated aluminum for the detailing work. It also makes use of the new hinge system to ensure smooth transitions.
