The renowned Japanese multidisciplinary studio Nendo has lately designed the Torii furniture collection for Italian brand Minotti. This furniture line is suited for people who value Japanese craftsmanship and design techniques. Oki Sato of Nendo Design has worked on the leg design to create something different.
The collection sports round-edged volumes, thin profiles and highly detailed design. Interestingly, the seats and tables are highlighted by the shiny metal rod legs inspired by the traditional Torii gates of Shinto shrines in Japan. The seats come with a slim backrest that features vertical quilting and an eco-leather piping running along the perimeter of the cushioning.
The Torii family comprises sofas – with high or low backrest, inclined sofas, armchairs, little dining armchairs, ottomans, coffee tables, and an oval-shaped console table. The varied range of products makes it possible to design a flexible layout, in which the individual elements can also be combined to create a strong visual presence.
The seats can be accessorized with leather magazine caddy with the same metal details as the base. The end of the horizontal metal element of the legs is designed so that it almost holds the backrest and seat, recalling the Kigumi technique, borrowed from the Japanese tradition of wood construction.

The Torii coffee tables also feature the same structural style details as the seats, reflected through the metal frame. As of the Torii armchairs and swivel armchairs, they take a circular form and are designed to serve multiple purposes, in both kitchen and living room.
