Don’t throw away leftover slats of wood from your last woodworking project, rather put them to good use just like this Croatian woodworking specialist called Lignum. A few days back, he shared a video briefing how he converted pieces of wood into a cool DIY lounger. He aptly named it Pixel wooden lounge chair as it features a unique back with protruding wood slats, becoming a beautiful pixel art.
He initiated the project to utilize the knotted and damaged wooden boards separated during his previous project.
The process starts with sorting and planning of slats that are of same width and thickness. Next, he carved a rough template on a wood board using a Kuka industrial robot and glued the slats together according to the template in about 7-8 layers. Then he sculpted the desired shape by removing the excess wood and planing the surface.
Now, he filled the cracks with wood putty and sanded the entire surface for a smooth appearance. It took him about 30 hours to complete the 90 kg wooden lounge chair. And, the outcome of his hard work is truly inspiring and visible through curvy lines and a cityscape right at the back, making an artistic statement.
At first glance, it looks like an easy woodworking project but in reality, it isn’t. Anyone can get confused how he took a reference of the template and converted multiple layers of scrap wood into a perfect lounge chair.
