Samsung has been continuously digging into the smart home industry. The company unveiled its Bixby voice assistant and Galaxy Home speaker that was touted to function as SmartThings hub. Putting them on a back-burner, Samsung is launching its new plethora of smart home products, including a smart security camera, smart Wi-Fi plug, and a smart bulb.

The new SmartThings Cam is a full HD camera with wide-angle video and advanced object detection that senses motion intelligently. It is designed to help families keep an eye on their homes from anywhere using the companion mobile app. In case something unwanted is happening at home, it instantly alerts owners with notifications.

The smart indoor security camera can distinguish between humans and pets so it won’t disturb you unnecessarily. You can set up activity zones to pay closer attention to a specific area, such as notifying parents of movement in the nursery or when the pet jumps on furniture. The inclusion of two-way audio makes it possible to communicate remotely from a smartphone to the person back home.

Furthermore, the SmartThings Cam can connect with SmartThings light bulbs to turn on when motion is detected at night, or automatically turn on activity zones when a user leaves home. It works completely through your in-home Wi-Fi, and will not require a separate hub.

Each camera offers 24 hours cloud storage at no additional cost, with an option to connect up to 4 SmartThings Cams at a time. You can also upgrade to a premium plan which gives 30-day cloud storage for $7.99 per month or $79.99 per year, with the option to connect up to 8 smart cameras.

In addition to the SmartThings Cam, Samsung also introduced a SmartThings Wi-fi Smart Plug and SmartThings Smart Bulb. The smart plug is especially useful as it can turn nearly every electronic device at home, smart. The SmartThings Hub and the SmartThings app are required to enjoy all automation features of the smart bulb.

The SmartThings Cam costs $90, SmartThings Wifi Smart Plug is for $18 and the SmartThings Smart Bulb is available for about $10 on Samsung.
