The worst kept secret of electric car company Tesla is its expansion into battery-powered homes, details of which have been coming out since early this year. But Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has finally unveiled the most awaited concept in shape of a unique home battery system called Powerwall.

This home battery system is designed to be paired with solar panels to charge during the day and discharge at night. Solar energy is then stored within the battery for running the entire home without requiring any grid. It can be installed on the inside or outside of your home, to provide enough electricity to meet needs of an entire household.

Powerwall helps to create a sustainable home by generating balanced load on the power grid throughout the day, reducing consumption and carbon emissions. This means your house will be completely off-grid, while cutting down your utility bills. Moreover, it can also be used as a backup battery in case grid-based power goes down, which makes it a perfect power system for regions where electric supplies are limited.

The revolutionary in-home battery system is future of off-grid homes running solely on solar energy. It will start retailing this summer in United States with a single 7 kWh unit costing you around $3,000, whereas 10 kWh model for $3,500. Check out the video given below to find out more about the Powerwall.
