During the 2026 3daysofdesign, Copenhagen’s streets will be filled with designs and designers from around the world, and Tom Dixon among them. Making a return to the festival, the British designer is taking over the Egmont carpark to showcase an immersive installation named ‘The Carpark’. The installation explores hypermobility, adaptability, and movement in a raw urban space transformed into a bold expression of contemporary design.
The installation highlights key pieces from Tom Dixon’s new Autumn/Winter 2026 (AW26) first unveiled during Salone del Mobile, along with a preview of the Spring/Summer 2027 (SS27) design collections. From all the lighting and furniture pieces to be showcased at the fair, the MELT lighting pieces caught our attention the most.
The MELT lighting feature is known for its distorted, organic orbs that look like deep space probes. Created in collaboration with Swedish design collective, these lights utilize an advanced manufacturing process of blow-molding and vacuum metallization to achieve a unique dynamic effect.
When off, the fixtures feature a completely opaque, highly reflective mirror finish. When turned on, the shade becomes semi-transparent, revealing a mesmerizing, hallucinogenic internal glow similar to a lava explosion.
The fixtures are engineered in Germany using a high-tech polycarbonate shell coated with an ultra-thin, two-micron layer of real metal. They come in several distinct high-shine colorways like silver, copper, gold, smoke, and bronze.
For the AW26 collection, Tom Dixon launched a new avatar of the light in a high shine, highly reflective nickel finish. What’s even more exciting? For the SS27 collection, the designer has decided to bring the distorted globe-like lamps outside in a mini version.
Expanding the lamp’s portability, Dixon offers the same hot-blown glass effect when on and a mirror finish when off in a mini form. Both of these luminaries are to be showcased at the 2026 3daysofdesign.

Dixon is also bringing the GROOVE Outdoor Furniture, PLUMP Chair, POSE Portable & Task Lights, and Transitional Living Plant Pots, along with expanded decorative and scented accessories, to the 2026 3daysofdesign. With all these pieces, Tom Dixon aims to dissolve the differences between interiors and exteriors. The installation is his way of responding to the shift in his work, offering flexible, multi-functional furniture pieces. He believes furniture needs to reflect the blurring boundaries of the inside and the outside.
The selection of the venue is not just a choice or a coincidence. It is quintessential to the concept. Most of the time, a car park is ignored and overlooked. Yet it is the core symbolism of mobility. The raw architectural structure creates the perfect contrast between the comfort of the interior and the resilience of the exterior, carefully blurring the line between the inside and the outside.
