Designed by Canadian designer Thom Fougere, the Alder lounge chair and ottoman have a comfort-oriented design paired with Canadian craftsmanship. The lounge chair is designed for repose with carefully calibrated angles to hold the human body in equilibrium. Easing pressure and encouraging relaxation, the chair was first presented at the recently concluded IDS Toronto.

The lounge chair comes with an optional ottoman and an integrated headrest, making it perfect for relaxing, reading, or watching. It supports the human body in a relaxed, reclined posture, while holding the torso and legs in a state of comfortable balance. This is intended to ease the physical pressure while encouraging a state of rest. Exuding minimalism and comfort, the lounge chair looks aesthetic both indoors and outdoors.

The form features prominent metalwork, offering subtle sophistication and warmth. The chair’s design utilizes understated, rectilinear upholstered elements that create a sense of visual order. The clean-lined cushions connect seamlessly to solid wood supports, which makes the lounge chair a welcoming piece.

The base features a distinctive cross design that adds structural stability to the chair. It adds a subtle and quiet architectural focal point without overwhelming the surroundings. Inspired by traditional Canadian fabrication techniques, the pieces are manufactured by local artisans in Montreal. The optional ottoman follows the same line and design language, acting as a modular extension.

The choices of natural wood finishes and tactile fabrics for the Alder Lounge Chair and Ottoman evoke harmony, warmth, and domestic softness. The frame is made from solid FSC-certified wood and is generally available in two options: ash and oak. For both the lounge chair and the ottoman, the upholstery can be customized in a range of fabrics, including linen blend for breathable seating and leather for a luxurious feel.
