The latest smart photo frames use color E Ink for vibrant, battery-efficient images that are easy on the eyes in any lighting. Working on the same line, the premium digital picture frame brand Aura has introduced Aura Ink, a cordless connected photo frame that utilizes the full color E Ink Spectra 6 platform. Its launch expands E Ink’s reach into the connected home, demonstrating how color ePaper can enhance everyday décor.
Aura Ink sets a new benchmark for connected digital photo frames with its ultra-slim 0.6-inch profile and cordless operation. It features a 13.3-inch e-paper display built on only six ink colors: white, black, red, yellow, green, and blue. Using Aura’s proprietary dithering algorithm, these colors expand into the illusion of millions of tones. The result is a print-like photographic quality while remaining comfortable to view in any lighting.
With the E Ink Spectra 6 platform, the Aura Ink digital picture frame draws power only when the front light is on and when images change. The built-in front light automatically adapts to ambient room conditions and powers off at night to preserve the technology’s soft, paper-inspired look. The frame’s softly lit, paper-like display also supports human-centric viewing to create a calming experience in any light.
Thanks to the energy efficiency of e-paper, Aura Ink can run for up to three months on a single battery charge. Battery runtime depends on usage, such as how often the light is on, image refresh frequency, and Wi-Fi connectivity.

With the E Ink Spectra 6 platform, brands can design full-color, ultra-low-power displays that bring the visual essence of printed paper into the digital age. These displays work well in natural light because they do not require a backlight, and they can maintain images without power until the display changes. Instead, they use a built-in front light, which automatically adjusts to the room’s ambient lighting throughout the day and turns off in the dark.
Aura Ink frame supports both portrait and landscape modes and comes with a wall-mounting kit and stand. You can place it on a shelf or include it in a gallery wall in a well-lit area. It offers unlimited photo storage through the Aura app, which means you can easily upload as many images as you want. The frame is available for $499 on the official website.
