Customizing vehicles is a popular trend in caravanning, and you can find various types of motorhomes designed for solo camping or family travel. Dethleffs’ new Globebus Performance 4×4 concept vehicle focuses on families and is its first motorhome with a pop-up roof. It debuted at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf and features all-wheel drive with two sleeping areas under the roof, making it perfect for family trips.

The earlier Globebus Performance 4×4 was built for two people, featuring twin beds in the rear and a seating area that converted into a child’s bed. In contrast, the latest model accommodates up to four people. Dethleffs has also increased the gross vehicle weight to 4.5 tons, ensuring enough load capacity for large holiday luggage even with four passengers.

The pop-top roof bed measures 234 by 133 cm and comes with a slatted frame and a cold foam mattress for comfort. Made from strong, hail-resistant fiberglass, the pop-top roof features a retractable skylight, offering natural light and views. However, the front and side walls of the tent can also be opened with zippers to bring in fresh air and views. There is an extension ladder that helps access the roof bed from the inside. When not in use, the roof closes easily with a pull mechanism and locks securely. The pop-top roof contraption weighs about 120 kilograms.

The Globebus Performance 4×4 concept model not just impresses with its pop-top roof, but the interior design is also a great highlight. The interior has been fully upgraded with genuine leather upholstery. Not only are the driver’s cab seats and seating group covered in fine leather, but the dashboard, side panels, and headliner above the seating area also feature luxurious leather finishes for a unique touch to both the driver’s cab and living space.

Built on the VW Crafter, the Globebus Performance 4×4 features a 163 hp (120 kW) engine, differential lock, 8-speed automatic transmission, lift kit, reinforced front axle rated for 2,100 kg, and 18-inch all-terrain wheels. These features make the all-wheel-drive motorhome well-equipped to handle tough off-road conditions.

Other key features of the motorhome include a standard diesel heater and a 168 AH lithium battery that powers the compressor refrigerator entirely on electricity. It also comes with an onboard 5G Wi-Fi router to let you stay connected with your family wherever you travel. As noted by New Atlas, the standard two-berth Globebus Performance 4×4 starts at €120,000 (approx. $141,090), but there are no words on availability of the latest model.
