French company Devialet has made quite a name for itself in the high-end audio industry with the Phantom bookshelf speaker lineup that is still one of its most celebrated products. The first Devialet Phantom was launched in late 2014 and became available in early 2015. The Gold Phantom version, a more powerful flagship model with 4,500 watts and up to 108 dB volume, was introduced in June 2016, and now we have an upgraded version for 2025. The all-new Phantom Ultimate comes in two models: the 98 dB (400W) and the flagship 108 dB (1100W), both introducing major improvements over previous models.

The design maintains the iconic spherical shape with refined materials for less cabinet resonance and better thermal management. The speaker body combines an ABS outer shell with a glass fiber reinforced polycarbonate inner shell tied together by an aluminum spine that also pulls heat to the rear. The 108dB model is bigger and heavier, weighing 11.1 kilograms, while the 98dB model is smaller and lighter, weighing 4.3 kilograms. Both models feature refined touch controls and a support app for easy controls.

The bookshelf speaker boasts redesigned woofers for deeper, distortion-free bass and a new generation aluminum tweeter for cleaner highs. The Phantom Ultimate features enhanced sound algorithms, including improved Analog Digital Hybrid (ADH) amplification and Speaker Active Matching (SAM) technology that result in smoother treble and tighter, more lifelike bass. The new processor platform and upgraded connectivity (Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3) support seamless streaming and multiroom setups.

The Phantom Ultimate 108dB model delivers 1,100W RMS with a three-way driver design including a tweeter, midrange, and redesigned dual woofers that cover 14 Hz-35 kHz. The 98dB version has 400W RMS, a two-way design with a full-range driver and two woofers that cover a frequency range from 18 Hz to 25 kHz. As for audio quality, the 108dB model offers deeper, tighter bass with enhanced Speaker Active Matching (SAM) that creates a more immersive sound experience.
