I never thought much about pipe cleaners or as some call ‘em straw cleaners. They are weird little things, aren’t they? Cleaning straws and other small pipes. But they can be so much more and come in handy to create beautiful holiday decorations. So when inspiration struck, I tried to make a Christmas Tree out of colorful pipe cleaners. It turned out great so I thought of sharing the process of making it with you.

Steps-by-Step Tutorial About DIY Christmas Tree Using Pipe Cleaners

I took three shades of green pipe cleaners: dark, medium, and neon. Then I cut each into equal pieces of about 3 inches long.

Next, I folded all the pieces in half while leaving a curved end. I made a paper cone to serve as the base of the DIY Christmas Tree.

Then I glued the folded pipe cleaner pieces onto the paper cone from base to top. I kept the curved end outward and hid the other end with the upper layer of the brush making neat rows.

I kept gluing rows over rows of folded pipe cleaners until I reached the top. Then I bent the curved areas outward to make it look fuller and life-like.

Once all the green was on the paper cone, I made a star out of a pink pipe cleaner and filled its gap with more pieces of the same color.

Then, I glued the star on top of the tree. I had some beads, but they weren’t the right size, so I made small round ornaments by coiling colorful pipe cleaners and gluing them on the tree.

Lastly, a string light was wrapped around the tree. I tried my best to hide the ugly wiring but was partially successful. So if you are going to try it, maybe use a light with transparent wiring or better yet, with green wiring.
