So what if Halloween is only a day away? It doesn’t mean that crafting season is over when it has just begun. You can still make something that’ll stay around throughout the entire season, and crafting a cute-spooky DIY mushroom forest is not a bad idea. If you have envisioned being a forest fairy, then you must make this adorable mushroom forest décor with a tad of Halloween twist.
Mushrooms can be seen everywhere, especially in the fall. So why not capture their otherworldliness in this festive décor and freeze it forever as a keepsake on your shelf and fireplace mantel? This décor is a perfect mishmash of cottagecore, nature, and dark Halloween forest, inviting whimsy and fairylike charm to your house.
If you are wondering how to make one, then this detailed tutorial will guide you on the right track. All thanks to Sadie Seasongoods for inspiring the DIYers out there to make their own mushroom wonderland. Now that we are motivated, let’s get started.
Materials Needed:
- Grapevine basket
- Faux mushrooms
- Spanish moss
- Reindeer moss
- Floral foam
- Floral stem wire
- Wire cutter
Instructions for DIY Mushroom Forest Décor for Halloween
- Start by trimming off all the extra edges of your grapevine basket, as they could cause harm
- To use your grapevine basket as a base for your mushroom forest décor, you need to fill most of the space with floral foam. For that, carefully cut a small brick and set it inside the basket
- Hide the foam with Spanish moss. Simply tuck all the moss in the basket around the floral foam and cover it entirely
- Next, make it look like a magical forest bed. You can use reindeer moss to achieve your desired look. Layer it on top of your Spanish moss and cover it up
- It’s time to decorate the basket with mushrooms to turn it into a mushroom forest. To build a forest floor of mushrooms, carefully insert the floral stem wire into each mushroom so that it sticks into the floral foam under the moss
- Check twice to make sure that all your mushrooms are properly stuck in place and won’t come out
- Now, for some Halloween touches, you can add a tiny ghost or any ghost candle in the center to complete the look
Note: Refrain from using any glue if you want to disassemble the décor after Halloween is over.
Once done, you can display this handmade decoration on your shelf or mantel for an enchanting visual feast. If you are too attached to this décor and don’t want to dismantle it, then don’t. Just take out the ghost and keep it as a stunning display for some year-round sweetness. But even with the ghost, it still looks wonderful.
