These DIY sweater pumpkins are easy and fun to make, and give you the liberty to get your creative side out. You can create several of these budget-friendly fall décor sweater pumpkins for your house or parties/gatherings over the weekend. The steps to this DIY fall craft are similar to our DIY sock pumpkin, which takes only 10 minutes to come together.

If you are not willing to spend a lot of time or money on your home décor this fall, Bellewood Cottage has created these DIY sweater pumpkins, especially for those who don’t want to spend a lot of time or money on their home décor this fall. So collect your old sweaters and give them a new life.

Materials Needed:

  • Old sweaters
  • Scissors
  • Thread and needle
  • Yarn needle, doll needle, or upholster needle
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Yarn
  • Hot glue gun
  • Pumpkin stems/wooden finials

Instructions for DIY Sweater Pumpkins

  • For the first step, cut two big chunks from the sleeves
  • Gather the bottom of the sleeve tube with about a 3/4” seam allowance and stitch it together. Once all the fabric is gathered, pull the thread to gather the sleeve together
  • Stuff the sweater sleeve with a few handfuls of polyester filling, leaving some gap for the top to finish closing
  • Repeat the gathering process at the top of the pumpkin and pull the stitching close to tuck the seam
  • Make a few stitches to secure the knot. Thread a needle with a 4’ yarn length and bring the yarn up through the center of the pumpkin, leaving several inches for a tail
  • Wrap the yarn around and down the side of the pumpkin, and bring it back up through the center and pull tightly. Repeat to make more grooves
  • Once finished with this, trim the yarn by leaving some inches behind and tie both tails together in a double knot. Use a hot glue gun to secure the ends
  • Lastly, add the stem, and if using wooden finials, paint them in advance. Use hot glue to secure once you’ve inserted the stems into the finished pumpkins. Further, you can add ribbons or embellishments as per your choice

Note: The sweaters you choose will decide how your pumpkins are going to turn out. Go out with the color palette and create lovely pumpkins.

Once done with these steps, you have your own custom-made sweater pumpkins. Place them on tables or in your living room or bedroom. These adorable and easy-to-make DIY sweater pumpkins are too cute to be ignored. Make these low-effort DIY pumpkins and enjoy the cozy season.
