No electricity, no showers, nothing fancy at all. Just nature all around you. It might be the correct description for the Kolarbyn Eco-Lodge located in the woods of Skinnskatteberg, a two-hour drive from Stockholm. Here guests sleep in warmth of a crackling fireplace inside eco-friendly huts and enjoy nature up close.

There are a total of twelve forest huts at the Kolarbyn Eco-Lodge. These eco-huts are modeled after the dwellings of old charcoal-makers of the area. Constructed with all natural materials, these eco-huts are so appropriately made up to be the most primitive hostel in Sweden.

The huts have blueberries, vines, and moss growing on the roof, which allows them to blend with the surrounding nature. Nestled amongst green trees, these eco huts look more like the earth berm houses. Each hut has two bunks with inflatable mattress and sheepskin rugs to sleep two persons at a time.  There’s a fireplace to keep the interior space warm.

Guests have to chop wood and they can cook their own food to truly feel as if struggling in a real forest. There are countless other opportunities too for outdoor recreation and fishing lakes, barbecue areas and hiking in around the area. The Skärsjön Lake is nearby, where guests cans also enjoy a floating sauna.
