One growing trend in camping tents is the use of inflatable beams, and this design approach has now extended into the camper trailer niche as well. We have seen examples like Mars Space X Air, Air Opus, and Booba trailer that utilize tent-style canvas construction to create the camping setup. After several years of a gap, a new player has entered the market. Meet ToW trailer by Karsten Tents: it puts its popular air-beamed tent over a trailer to make a Tent on Wheels (ToW). The main benefits of this contraption are high payload capacity, easy setup, modularity, effortless towability, integrated sleeping comfort, and additional floor area.
Karsten first experimented with camping trailers in 2019 by partnering with Easy Caravanning. Taking their partnership further, they are now working together again on the Tent on Wheels. This lets you experience tent camping, with the comfort of a fixed raised bed and extra luggage room.
Instead of building the tent on top of the trailer, Karsten’s ToW tent expands outward around the trailer, creating more living space. The tent uses a 4-bar air hose system, pressurized within minutes using the included 230V compressor. Each tent is made of 100 percent TenCate cotton and equipped with a tear- and abrasion-resistant waterproof Bisonyl groundsheet that is also integrated to keep out dirt and pests.
This trailer tent comes with a fixed sleeping area on a full-size slatted base with a generous mattress, 83 x 65 inches (210 x 160 cm), and includes a handy step for entry. The square perimeter of the floor measures 11.5 x 11.5 feet (3.5 x 3.5 m), and the maximum height of the tent is 7.4 feet (2.3 m). When travelling, the tent canvas folds and packs away inside the trailer, taking its height under 3.3 feet (1 meter).
The ToW measures 12.1 feet (370 cm) long and has a base weight of just 660 lbs (300 kg). It is equipped with an axle rated at 1,650 lbs (750 kg), allowing for a payload of around 1,000 lbs (454 kg), which is the weight of gear you can load.

New Atlas points out that the available space will fill up sooner, even before the weight limit is reached. For storage, the Tent on Wheels (ToW) also includes a compartment inside the trailer beneath the hinged bed platform, as well as a rack at the front (on the tongue) designed to hold two bicycles.
The Karsten ToW is available in various colors, and the price starts from €12,995 (approx. US$15,200) right now. What makes it more useful is the modular capabilities, which allow you to extend the space for different needs. You can start with a base dome and add awnings or an extra sleeping compartment for the children or your four-legged friend later.
