The German brand Klafs has launched what it claims to be the world’s first retractable sauna. The innovative design is perfect for space-conscious homes where it sits pretty like an unassuming bookshelf until use. Klafs wants to give those tight on space to sweat it out at home with the S1 expandable sauna, especially designed for small spaces. At the touch of a button, the S1 expands to full size and retracts to save space once the sauna session is complete.

What sits in the corner of your home like a bookshelf, the S1 expands three times its size, offering you a full-scale sauna without sacrificing the valuable square footage. Its modern, sleek, space-saving design comes with insulated walls, premium finished, and 8mm glass for reliable performance. The exterior is finished in matte black or walnut, while the walnut interior creates cozy, warm feel.

The new S1 combines innovative tech and a minimalist aesthetic, making it a practical addition to your contemporary home. It sits flush against the wall like a built-in unit, which extends outward like an accordion when you turn it on. In about 45 seconds, it goes from its fully retracted depth of 2 feet to its full size of 5.25 feet.

Available in three sizes – small, medium, and large – each S1 can accommodate two to three people. The S1 is equipped with the proprietary Sanarium control, offering five distinct heat and humidity combinations. It offers ranges from traditional dry sauna to intense tropical steam.

The temperature, humidity, and lighting can be set with your Wi-Fi-enabled device or built-in touchscreen. The temperature ranges up to 210 degrees Fahrenheit. Dimmable SUNSET backrest lighting offers perfect ambiance to customize the sauna experience.

You can set the tone and mood in the sauna with Bluetooth. Play music, listen to podcasts, and guided meditations through integrated speakers. With Klafs App, you can turn your sauna on remotely so it is ready to use whenever you are.

The S1 expandable sauna for small homes will be available for purchase in the US, as Robb Report says, in the summer of 2026. The pricing details are still under wraps, but we expect it to come at a premium.
