It is no denying that mankind seeks its creativity from nature and wildlife. From design to architecture, everything is more or less inspired by the landscape we live in. Whether it’s the hexagonal honeycomb structure bees invented or the conical nest designed by birds, humans have their own iteration of every idea initially conceived by animals.
Men have not just incorporated these techniques used by animals for building homes but also simulated their body shapes to design buildings and multiple other structures. The Manta Ray treehouse in Joali Maldives hotel is a classic example of it. Hoisted among the palm fronds, the treehouse is one of the biggest and most clickable art pieces at the Maldives hotel. Porky Hefer, an artist from Cape Town is responsible for shaping the structure.
The treehouse features a manta ray (a type of sea creature) design with a winding wooden walkway as its tail. The structure is a nod to an independent island country containing the world’s largest population of reef mantas. Featuring overwater villas with private pools and endless ocean vistas, Joali Maldives has managed to set itself apart by adding an artistic flair to its architecture.
The biggest highlight of the hotel includes a treehouse and another Manta Ray inspired art installation. Underneath the straw roof structure of the treehouse is a dining space that looks exquisite in pictures and absolutely incredible when visited. There are curved banquettes for people to sit on and have a fine dinner.
Based 16-feet above the ground between palm trees, the treehouse is poised on steel structures clad with wood and local palm. There is a 50-meter suspended walkway leading guests up to the body of the Manta Ray tree house which seats up to 10 guests for a memorable dining experience.

Some may love it as an art installation while others could simply enjoy the whimsical views of the nature sitting under its roof. One could even literally wine and dine few feet above the ground and enjoy the beauty of the beaches from a distance. But, I personally feel, it to be a really romantic beach location for couples with Manta-shaped treehouse adding more flair to it.
