Can furniture capture the beauty of a celestial body? Well, the Mooncrater side table by Wanderart is kind of close. The sculptural piece is a part of the ‘Lunar Edition’ that embeds the morphogenetic processes of natural elements into different pieces. The table aptly mimics the rugged, cratered landscape of the moon, with each piece being hand-made using artisanal techniques.

The table draws inspiration from the intricate process of land formation and the pulsating energy of creation. Crafted using lost wax cast aluminum and bronze, the table reflects the beauty of leftovers found in the casting crucibles. Metal is forged, transformed, and ultimately shaped to give the furniture its unique components-remnants and residues.

The artist Alessandra Pasqua has primarily crafted the furniture from recycled metals that are chosen according to their ability to be molded. The bronze and aluminum used in the making are 80 percent recycled. Every piece is handmade, meaning no two tables are identical. The difference in dimensions and weight reflects the unique cooling and settling of the liquid metal in each pour.

Customizable in dimensions, the table seeks to bridge the gap between the intentional hand of an artist and the spontaneous drama of land formation. This ‘spontaneous’ aesthetic mimics sedimentary basins and natural debris. It reflects the free possibilities of nature, artistry, and technology combined.

Human intervention and the unpredictable essence of natural materials shape the $21,000 Mooncrater side table. Roughly 44 × 61 × 61 cm in dimensions, the table takes you to the outer space with its looks and a world of deep thinking with its philosophy. Placed in any setting, the side table will look like a piece of personal moon for your nights.
