A case in point is the Obi daybed, an outdoor chaise lounge that takes a piece of the traditional kimono and makes it a key features.
Designed by Italy-based design duo Ludovica Serafini and Roberto Plaomba for furniture brand Expormim, the product takes inspiration from the kimono and uses the belt as the furniture’s main element. By doing so, the duo honors the long-living culture through ageless design.
Called Obi, the belt – which Japanese people tie around their waist in a plush bow as an essential and aesthetic part of the kimono – becomes the essential part of the daybed. To respect the tradition, the designers have created the Obi as the reflection of the dress, where you see the belt hugging the daybed harmoniously. The backrest of the furniture has a wide piece of fabric or belt, if you will, wrapped around it. The plush cushions and seat provide a comfortable lounge in an outdoor setting.
Made with Zander technical fabric or premium Sunbrella sling that are known to be perfect for outdoor use, the daybed becomes more relevant and coveted. The structure is made of high resistance aluminum. As it is for outdoor use, the aluminum offers sturdy design so you don’t want it to worry about corrosion and weathering down of the furniture. The legs are made of injected aluminum and finished with polyester powder for further refinement.
The materials are of high-quality and make the Obi a timeless piece for outdoor furniture. You can have it placed in the garden or backyard space for an exquisite lounging experience amidst the flourishing nature.
