Marble is continuously becoming a popular raw material in furniture design. Whether used alone or in combination with some other material, it makes a statement piece every time. A case in point is the Orbe collection of sofas and armchairs designed by Anthony Guerrée for La Chance Paris. Meant to be used as a modular system, the collection is distinguished with movable marble elements. These modules have been creatively integrated into the design to become a part of the sofa.

The sofa’s foundational base supports a high, cantilevered backrest that extends beyond the seat. This allows the accommodation of marble or cast aluminum “rocks” in the design. Made of marble or cast aluminum, these sculptural and functional modules integrate harmoniously into the architecture of the sofa.

You can choose how many rocks to include and where to position them. Whether putting them under the overhanging backrest or wrapping them around the edges, the marble elements add to the sofa’s layered look. They not only serve as a base for the sofa but also enhance the sculptural essence.

Inspired by the work of German artist Nicole Wermers with geometric explorations – partially inscribed circles and intersecting forms – Anthony designed Orbe’s modular system by combining semi-circles and rectangles for a balanced, flowing design. It can be configured according to different spaces and needs. From a cozy armchair to a large seating for socializing, its modular design is capable of versatile uses.

The Orbe modular sofa represents a new vision for contemporary design, where modularity meets sculptural aesthetic. It sports a curvy shape with a low backrest. All the seating modules are upholstered in Alpaca and Merino wool, which makes them very special for those who admire handcrafted luxury.

This modular sofa with sculptural marble elements is perfect to transform any living space, from a simple seating area to a social hub. From seating possibilities to material, everything has been decided by looking into both functionality and aesthetics.
