The world’s largest annual furniture trade fair Salone del Mobile is back and Japanese designers will be marking their presence felt at the event. Tokyo-based Sekisai, a design house specializing in 3D printing will also be exhibiting its new collection at the upcoming SaloneSatellite. The entire line named “CO-BREATHING OBJECTS” features uniquely developed “Phantasmagorical Skin” that provides a distinct visual effect with colors that change depending on the viewing angle.
The collection comprises 3D-printed chair, vases, wall decorations, and lighting fixtures; however, we will be focusing on the chair design, which intends to make furniture and spaces that resonate with human behavior and breathe together.
With 3D-printed designs, the makers “aim to change objects from “using” to “communicating” objects.” They want to foster interactions between people and objects in order to help individuals discover comfortable spaces and colors that resonate with their moods.

The Easy 3D-printed chair in Moon Night Blue mimics ‘the golden full moon, the deep blue night sky illuminated by it, and the stalks of rice fluttering in the wind’. The makers have utilized large-scale 3D printing to maximize the visual effect. This results in a fine texture on the surface that reflects countless lights to create a glittering impression.
This futuristic, 3D-printed chair will share space with Zaha Hadid Design’s Seyun chair at Milan Furniture Fair. The design firm portrays it “like a flower changing color, a butterfly flying in the sky, and a pulsating life.”
