The multidisciplinary design duo SF-SO is well-known for its minimalist furniture designs that make minimum use of materials. One of the teammates Joo Hoyoung has even designed a flat-pack chair that assembles using straps. Their latest Thin Shelf series follows a similar approach and is made from metal panels just 1.6mm thick but can hold considerable weight.  

Each shelf is made from thin metal panels folded into an L-shape to ensure strength and stability. These folded panels feature an interlocking design, making the shelf structure sturdy enough to support over 100 kg once assembled.

The panels are connected with screws that remain hidden due to their creative placement. The assembly joints are positioned at the center and underside of the shelf and wall. As a result, the joints are not visible from any angle – it’s only the thin silhouette of metal panels that you can see.

The shelf panels come in various lengths to accommodate different needs or preferences. Their modular design allows the user to combine two or more shelves in different colors or sizes to fulfill the bigger storage needs. Despite the size variations, all the panels feature the same shape to ensure fast stacking and flat-packed packaging for easy delivery.

The collection consists of floor-standing and wall-mounted shelving units in different sizes. All the pieces are currently listed for purchase on the SF-SO website. The Thin Shelf series starts at just $255 for the smallest model.
