After revolutionizing the camper van market with electric models, the industry is now shifting to hybrids, with plug-in hybrid versions like Ford’s Nugget and Volkswagen California. Taking a step further, RV giant THOR Industries has launched Embark that is being marketed as the world’s first range-extended electric Class A motorhome. Built by Entegra Coach, it represents a major milestone in the future of mobility and RV innovation.

Measuring 30 feet (9.1 meter) long, the Embark motorhome is built on an electric vehicle platform created by Harbinger Motors. It offers 105 miles of range on battery power alone, while an integrated low-emission gasoline range extender can recharge the batteries to extend the total range up to 450 miles.

The range-extended electric chassis is powered by a centrally mounted 140-kWh battery pack. The company claims its position ensures great driving stability and smooth handling. Charging is flexible, with options to plug in at home (240V), at campgrounds (50A), or on the road using DC fast chargers (800V+). In case of a power outage, the motorhome can also serve as a mobile backup energy system. It also includes a suite of advanced safety features including backup camera with dynamic trajectory, front and rear ultrasonic collision warnings and real-time tire pressure monitoring.

The motorhome features a hot-dip galvanized frame designed to last for 450,000 miles. Its European-inspired design adds a stylish and modern touch to both the exterior and interior living spaces. Two large skylights are included to flood the living areas with natural light during the day, while included shades provide privacy when needed.

The motorhome features a forward-facing rear seating area that converts into a comfortable lounge when parked. The main living space includes a collapsible dinette table that comfortably seats four for meals and can be stowed away to open up the space. Another key advantage is the large rear pass-through storage that offers ample room to carry bulky gear on your adventures.

Full production of the Embark class-A hybrid motorhome will begin in 2026. Before that, THOR’s rental division, THL, will offer it for rent, allowing customers to experience it firsthand. THOR plans to use customer feedback from these rentals to make improvements to the final model throughout 2026.
