Samsung is adding upgraded AI Vision and voice control to its Bespoke AI Family Hub refrigerator at CES 2026, which helps manage food storage and reduce waste. These new refrigerators are now powered by Google Gemini-driven AI for improved food recognition and a handleless design that can open/close the door via voice command. It is a result of Samsung‘s vision to transform home appliances into companions that lessen the stress of daily chores.

The functionality of automatic door opening/closing is achieved with the help of the Bixby assistant. Enhanced by on-device AI, it can recognize individual family members by voice and display personalized information like calendars, health metrics, and playlists. The Verge reports that you can also tap the door with your hand to activate it.

Another highlight is the integration of Google Gemini into the fridge, enhancing its capability to recognize more food items without manual registration and automatically updating food lists in real-time. This simplifies meal planning and food management over time. When you ask, “What’s for Today?” This AI-powered refrigerator provides recipe recommendations based on items available inside.

When selected, the recipes show up through SmartThings Food, where you get a step-by-step guide for help. The recipe can also be shared with smart cooking appliances for even more convenience. It can also recommend cooking videos and convert them into easy-to-follow steps. With SmartThings integration, you can control all your connected smart home devices right from the screen.

Samsung has also mentioned the AI Hybrid Cooling feature in the Family Hub fridge that ensures optimal freshness and energy efficiency, while a built-in Xenon sterilization system maintains hygiene. It even has a FoodNote feature that provides a weekly report that recaps users’ food intake patterns and suggests time to restock different items.

Samsung is also unveiling the Bespoke AI Wine Cellar with similar AI-powered features. It works through a camera that recognizes the labels and tracks bottles when adding or removing them. All the recorded information can be accessed through the SmartThings AI Wine Manager.
