Household robots are becoming increasingly multifunctional and automated, minimizing human intervention to the greatest extent possible. White rabbit, an AI companion robot developed by Beijing-based Penguins Innovate, is a great example of that. This one-of-a-kind home robot not only combines lighting, camera, and speaker functions into a single unit but also employs a creative way for movement and enabling automation. Unlike standard robots that walk on legs or roll on wheels, this unique robot transports around your home through a pre-installed wired cable connection and serves its purpose, such as a lamp or a music player, exactly where you need it.
Each unit requires two components for installation: a rounded, movable polymer shell that emits diffused light and a flexible carbon-fiber rail called AirPath, which receives power. These flexible air rail paths allow the shell to move around different areas within a room. Each airpath measures 1 meter (3.28 feet) in length and can be easily assembled to fit any space. White rabbit can be installed between any two surfaces within approximately eight meters, at a comfortable height.
Powered by the Nvidia Jetson processor and WR-1 smart engine, this movable robot achieves exceptional responsiveness, allowing it to be just next to you. Furthermore, the engine, transmission system, and dynamic power supply are integrated into a magnesium frame inside the shell. Each shell also features two fans to cool the frame and expel the internal heat.
White rabbit works like a moving, individually controllable light source. You can freely adjust its position, brightness, color temperature, and even the type of lighting to match your particular needs. With five RGB LEDs, it offers up to 16,000 lumens with 30 dual-temperature LEDs (2700K–7000K).
The shell moves with the user to provide optimal lighting position. The light turns off when you leave the room and lights up the moment you walk in. There is also a built-in light sensor that adjusts brightness and color tone based on the real-time environment. It even synchronizes with the biological clock to provide a healthier lighting environment.
The lighting shell also responds to gestures – you can simply raise your hand near it to activate it. You can also adjust light intensity and brightness levels. The companion mobile app can also be used to switch modes and change effects with multi-color illumination. It offers a full spectrum of lighting effects, including spotlight, diffused glow, ambient mood lighting, focused task lighting, and reflected and direct illumination.
The shell includes four onboard 1080p cameras to provide a full 360-degree panoramic view. You can enjoy 2K HD live VR viewing through the companion mobile app. It can even be used for home security as white rabbit’s intelligent security features will automatically detect unusual activity and sound an alarm.
The white rabbit 3-in-1 AI companion also features an AI speaker for conversational interaction. With dual 3W speakers and two microphones, it can play music, answer your questions, and control your environment. Each shell is equipped with two high-fidelity speakers to deliver rich, immersive audio. The sound and light elements even sync with each other, creating a multi-sensorial experience.

All recognition features run locally on the device, so it works even offline. It also includes functions that require an internet connection, like live panoramic view via the app, smart voice features, software updates, and remote app control. Video recordings are stored locally only when record mode is enabled. All recorded footage and data can be easily saved, deleted, and managed through the app.
Over time, the robot will become intelligent by learning from your behavior and evolve to be capable of adjusting lights, starting reminders, or playing music automatically. The makers claim to provide continuous software updates to enhance the suite of applications and services. The company also plans to integrate Siri into the white rabbit in the near future.
True to its name, inspired by the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, this robot gives a new way to enjoy on-demand features. You don’t have to install multiple separate devices for music, lighting, and video communication, as one white rabbit does this all. If you like this movable multi-functional AI companion, it can be pre-ordered for about $880 from Kickstarter, with delivery expected in April 2025.
