Designed by Nicola Bonriposi for MIDJ, the Yak furniture collection combines timeless elegance with contemporary comfort to create welcoming surroundings. The Yak sofa, inspired by the resilience, adaptability, and symbiotic relationship between humans and the environment, lets the user be the end designer with its modular structure. Bonriposi uses the yak, an animal that survives in harsh conditions, as a metaphor for a design that must endure shifting landscapes and evolving life stages.

Bonriposi views the collection as a living entity rather than a static object. Each piece in the collection is designed to offer superior comfort without compromising on style. Just as the yak symbolizes peaceful but quiet strength, the furniture features soft design and generous volumes that provide a sense of psychological safety and comfort in a chaotic world.

The collection’s organic textures and fluid lines are intended to evoke the calm and balance of natural horizons, bridging the gap between indoor artificiality and the raw outdoors. It uses a screw-free, interlocking system that reflects a deeper intellectual approach to freedom and temporality. Made with a cradle-to-cradle mindset, the collection focuses on recyclability and longevity.

The system is built from three core interchangeable units that can be combined into various pre-configured versions, including a single-seat sofa, a two-seater, or a three-seater. The internal shell is constructed from expanded polypropylene, which is 100 percent recyclable and lightweight yet robust. The padding features pocket spring technology, polyurethane foam, and polyester fiber for superior comfort and durability.
