The popularity of vintage trailers can never be underestimated. With the latest technological advancements, people are now restoring them into chic mobile homes that not only boast classic style but are also packed with modern features. Case in point is a hand-restored 1950 Westcraft Capistrano Calypso trailer, currently up for sale at duPont Registry.

Its current owner, Lucas Lackner had purchased it in abandoned condition and then done an extensive restoration to up-value the original trailer. He says that the restoration process had cost him about $600,000 and took about 11 years.

The restoration team was led by vehicle restoration expert Steven Butcher. They wanted to improve the original design by integrating the latest in safety features, luxury, comfort, and connectivity. The new details are hidden in order to maintain the classical Deco feel.

This 33-feet long travel trailer had dilapidated floor and woodworking inside, which the team restored meticulously. Aside from wooden details, stainless steel surfaces are added to the kitchen and bathroom. New faucets and fixtures are innovatively incorporated into the kitchen.

The electrical wiring is completely replaced with 20-amp Romex. Wheels, axles, brakes, and springs are also refurbished and updated. There are independent music systems as well as a Sony flatscreen with Bose soundbars in living and bedroom.

The main restoration objective was to create an updated but antique-style trailer based on the original 1930’s Art Deco design. For this, many new elements have been added to the original design.
