The tiny house industry has enthralled the world so much that you can have a micro-dwelling delivered to your doorstep from Amazon. Yes, you read that right! Knowing something and watching it happen are two different things. So, I was surprised when I stumbled upon a video of a couple of men unboxing a tiny house from the online retailer like bookstagramers unbox their book hauls. At first, the house seems like a small stall; turns out, it is an expandable tiny house that comes prefabricated and can be transported anywhere.

Priced at $35,000, this expandable tiny house offers 380 square feet of interior space. It goes from roughly 6 feet to 19 feet wide by merely opening up the sides. It features an “expandable” steel frame, thermal insulation, and ample space to be divvied up to create different living spaces. Created by the brand Zolyndo, this foldable tiny house can be outfitted with two bedrooms, one living room, a bathroom, and a kitchen. Now, if it does that, why wouldn’t you want to invest in an ADU like this?

The home comes in three size configurations. A 13-foot by 20-foot structure with a bathroom will cost $20,000, whereas a 15-foot by 20-foot unit will cost $23,000. The $35K unit is the largest build measuring 19-foot by 20-foot and comes with an included bathroom that has a toilet and shower.

It is a particularly fascinating additional dwelling unit because it folds out easily to reveal a much larger picture and can house a small family. But you don’t need to use it as a permanent dwelling if you are skeptical and can use it in your backyard as a guest house, a vacation rental, or just a giant room for storage.

Now let’s talk about what’s not included. The expandable Amazon tiny house does not come outfitted with electrical outlets, room separators, or furniture. The wind load of the house is up to 70mph, which may not be suitable in particularly windy areas. As for the snow load, the house can withstand a heavy snow load, how much is not clearly specified. Regardless, this expandable, prefabricated tiny house from Amazon is not suitable for places with extreme weather conditions.
