If you are reading this, surely you came here with either of two mindsets; either found it interesting or were really looking for a chair that can be folded inside a woman’s purse. Well, it is not a rumor, there is a chair that can be folded inside a small bag. Dubbed Anywhere Kneeling Chair, the foldable and portable furniture is designed for meditation.

While it may sound a little absurd to meditate on a chair, its design isn’t like any other traditional chair. It is more of a portable bench that features a spacious curved surface providing ample support to your hips while you seek tranquillity or at least try to do so. Ippinka, the Canadian company behind the project, calls it a portable bench. If I were to challenge them, I’d not even call it a bench, because it looks no less than a stool.

Keeping personal opinions aside, the chair design follows the ethos of Japanese culture. The minimalist furniture piece is so minimal that you’d find it hard to adjust your hips. The makers state that it features a wide and comfortable surface that is similar to a bicycle saddle. But then again you can’t sit stiffly while meditating as it must be done in a relaxing position.

Since it is being touted as a piece of Japanese meditation equipment, I’d leave it to you to decide whether a yoga mat assists mediation better, or this 3.5 x 6.3 x 9.3-inch chair? Whatever might be the case, consider it to be furniture that can generally be used for mediation. Well, if you are stubborn enough you can use it as a regular bench or chair, but mind your back as this chair won’t be offering any back support.

Let’s talk about its foldability feature, which does sound fun. Weighing just 180 grams, the Anywhere Kneeling Chair can easily be folded inside a lady’s purse. Once folded, it retracts to a size of 10x 7.7 x 1.2 inches, to easily fit in a small purse or bag.

The portable chair is not just lightweight and compact but also inconspicuous and one may find it hard to spot. Easy to fold and unfold, the chair can be assembled with a single push. The chair comes in black and purple color and will cost you $21. Sadly, it is out of stock at the moment and you might have to wait a little more if it intrigued you enough to give it a try.
