Danish brand HAY introduces its Spring 2026 collection, which includes several new designs and updates to existing ranges. Julien Renault’s bistro-inspired aluminum tables and chairs are cool highlights amongst furniture releases, but the Aplat paper lamp stands out from the rest with its responsive materiality.
Made from folded silk paper, this lamp showcases how a simple material takes a functional form with just a few folds. Named after the French word for ‘flat,’ the lamp evokes the beauty of transformation, shifting from a 2D plane to a 3D form in just a few folds.
Designed by French design duo Camille Paillard and Romain Voulet of CPRV, the Aplat table lamp comes flat-packed for you to assemble. This way, you can be part of the design process, which can be appealing for many of us.
The paper lamp comes with pre-folds and creases that allow you to easily shape it into a graphic form. The designers see it as “a bit like a piece of clothing that starts with a flat piece of fabric but forms a volume once assembled or worn.”
The paper lampshade sits on a thin, rhombus-shaped base that nicely complements the minimal look. The lamp also includes a discreet metal hook on top, allowing you to move it around the home.

In terms of design, the combination of off-white paper and a black base creates a simple yet impressive lamp. The diffused paper surface emits an ambient glow just like candlelight, perfect for adding simple warmth to any space.
The Aplat paper lamp is equipped with a replaceable LED bulb and includes an inline on-off rocker switch. The lamp is available in two sizes: a compact 28 x 17.5 x 44 cm model with a light output of 500-800 lumens, and a larger 42 x 26 x 66 cm version that reaches up to 1,500 lumens. The smaller variant is perfect for placing on tables, shelves, and windowsills, while the large size works as a floor-standing lamp.
