In the last few years, architectural firms spread across the United Kingdom have been showcasing dog kennel designs at Barkitecture, Britain’s leading kennel design competition. With no disrespect to the event or any particular firm, the designs unveiled in previous editions were cozy and functional but lacked a touch of luxury. To add affluence and a breath of fresh air, Aston Martin brings the DBK-9 dog kennel to Barkitecture 2024.

Departing from the conventional, the luxury sports cars manufacturer will showcase DBK-9 dog kennel at this year’s edition themed ‘Lounge Access: For the Jet-Setting Dog.’ DBK-9 isn’t your regular dog shelter or a pet carrier but a lifestyle statement a dog would yearn for.

The DBK-9 boasts a sleek and timeless design, reminiscent of Aston Martin’s signature style. The interior of the dog carrier is adorned with premium all-purpose leather rawhide that offers a plush space for the pooch to rest. The well-ventilated interior also ensures a safe and congenial environment for your pal during transportation.

“The Aston Martin “DBK-9” provides a distinct cocoon-like habitat that, when in use, reduces canine stress and promotes a safe space of comfort for any four-legged family member,” Aston Martin mentions in its kennel design preview.

The DBK-9 dog crate is the brainchild of Marek Reichman (Creative Officer for Aston Martin) who drew design inspiration from Aston Mastin’s collection of luxury cars. Notably, the quilted leather base of the kennel was inspired by the seats in Aston Martin’s DB12, while a brass element based on the pivot of the pet carrier is modeled after the vintage AMV8.

“By incorporating our timeless Aston Martin shape, form, and racing green color, the design reduces vision and noise, protecting against the elements,” the maker states. DBK-9 boasts a collapsible form that allows the owners to stow it away neatly after use or hang it from their shoulders (like a bag) when walking with the pup comfortably placed in it.

With an interesting take on the pet carrier, Aston Martin intends to rekindle the pet care and travel segment. But how much of an impact it would make (considering the pricing is pegged between £1,500 – £2,000 – roughly $3,000 on Bonhams) is a discussion for another day. For now, it’s the incredible stable form factor, plush leather interior, and the cocooning hideout for the dog that’s worth appreciating.
