San Francisco-based home automation company August Home, best known for its smart home security products has launched a new smart door lock at CES 2020 that works without a hub. The new August Wi-Fi Smart Lock features a sleek and compact design in comparison to the earlier versions, which makes it more suitable for modern homes.

Designed by August co-founder and renowned designer Yves Béhar, the new smart lock has built-in Wi-Fi for connectivity. Simply pair it with the companion mobile app and control it from your phone remotely or use a voice assistant, no need for an additional bridge. It can be paired with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri to enjoy voice control.

Powered by two CR123 batteries, this easy-to-install smart lock attaches to an existing deadbolt on the inside of the door, which means the original keys will still work. Currently, the August Smart Locks are compatible with single cylinder deadbolts. There is an LED light in the shape of August logo, to let users know the current status of the door lock.

You can grant virtual guest keys, and monitor the door status easily with Activity feed on the mobile app. It notifies every time when someone opens or closes the door. The August Wi-Fi door lock can be programmed to automatically lock when you leave and unlock when you come back – thanks to the geo-fencing technology.

In case you have forgotten to lock the door, it will automatically do so for you after a certain time period that you have set. In addition, the DoorSense feature notifies users whether the door is securely closed.

You can control the lock with the August mobile app or Apple Watch. Additionally, it can also be controlled with the August Smart Keypad or the existing keys. The August Wi-Fi Smart Lock uses Bluetooth Energy (BLE) technology encryption and TLS, as well as two-factor authentication to provide a secure environment to its users.

According to August Home, the Wi-Fi Smart Lock will be available in matte black or silver finishes later this year.
