Caracat is something you might not have heard of before but I am sure you will not forget it from today afterwards. Is it a houseboat, a camper trailer, or simply a tongue twister? This dilemma has left me muddled up this morning? Well, to all intents and purposes, Caracat is a German company that has released a model by the same name. Dubbed Caracat 860, it is a houseboat that functions as an RV and vice versa. This may remind you of Terra Wind, a motorhome that was capable of crossing rivers and lakes despite weighing 33,000 pounds and the Caracat 860 is no different.

Partnering with Schneider Caravaning, the German company has developed the vehicle that is capable of allowing you to camp on both, land and water. It comes in three sizes, from 6.6 m, 7.6m, 8.6 m, thus deriving the name after the latter size. When on the road, the campervan needs to be towed by a truck but when in waters, it transforms into a catamaran that propels on its own through an 8-15 horsepower Torqeedo electric or gasoline-powered motor.

Caracat 860 is laced with a patented design that includes two extendable pontoons that swing out when in water and retract back while returning to the highway as visible in the pictures. When the pontoons are swung out, the catamaran exhibits a width of 12-feet and once retracted, it reduces to 8-feet. The added width is the reason what gives the catamaran more stability in the water.

Measuring a little over 28-feet, this amphibious vehicle accommodates a family of six within the unit with a roof-mounted pop-up tent. Boasting a teak-floored cabin, the campervan cum watercraft features two elegant sofa lounges, which convert into sleeping areas. A whirlwind in water and roaring beast on road, it is packed with all essentials as well as luxury features, from front to rear.

It will be shame not to mention that the catamaran-come-RV comes equipped with a bathroom, diesel-electric cooktop, microwave, fridge, sink, wine cooler, and a retractable LED smart TV with a Bluetooth audio system. For off-grid living, all these features are powered by the solar panels on the roof.

Apart from an opulent interior, there is also a sundeck lounge with canopy which can be accessed via a ladder on the outside. With all these luxury features, no wonder, Caracat 860 is deemed to cost a shitload of money. New Atlas reports that the 6.6 m model is priced at $130,000.
