Giona Bierens de Haan, a Geneva-based architect and designer, has revealed a new furniture collection the CEIBA as part of a collaborative exhibition in Geneva. The Ceiba collection employs distinctive and strange forms of nature with a comic element. It is inspired by the prickles of the Ceiba tree found in the tropical regions of America and Africa and stands out for its peculiar and thorny appearance, perfect for adding a playful touch to your home interior.

Designed to create a cohesive space, CEIBA consists of a vertical and horizontal shelf, a table, and four chairs. Constructed in vibrant green, natural, and black oak finishes by Atelier Longoni, this peculiar furniture collection is infused with humor and vivacity.

It imbibes a sculptural essence thanks to the spiky silhouette. Its structure and functionality make it an ideal choice for a living room, bedroom, or dining setting. The collection’s aesthetically strange anatomy, characteristics, and noticeable morphology have been purposefully ensured to blend in a natural element in the space it is placed.

As part of the collaborative exhibition, Giona Bierens de Haan has also collaborated with Swiss-Argentinian ceramist Angeles Rodriguez to create a contemporary ceramics collection called SOMBRA. This collection is made from black sandstone and complements the CEIBA furniture collection. In the exhibition, we can see the ceramic pots placed tactfully on the CEIBA shelves, each rejoicing in the other’s company.

Inspired by the distinctive forms of nature, the CEIBA and SOMBRA collections honor the materiality, form, and function. The two collections are not only eye-catching but also functional in more than one way. They can be used for dining, displaying antiques, or as a bookshelf.

Despite their beauty and uniqueness, the furniture collection poses a safety concern due to its sharp and pointed spokes, making them slightly unsafe in homes with pets and little children. For more information, you can visit Giona Bierens de Haan’s official website.
