It is a very rare occurrence when a design wholeheartedly exhibits its essence of ‘form follows function’. And, quite fortunately that is the case with the unpretentiously christened Coil Lamp. Ingeniously created by Chicago designer Craighton Berman, the visual form of the lamp easily traverses the scope set by the traditional use of shades, stand and all the paraphernalia of wiring. Instead as we can see from the above image, the wiring poses as both the shade and the support, thus initiating a unique yet somewhat practical scheme of things.

The effervescently orange wiring is question is actually a 100 foot long power cord that was wound over a laser-cut clear acrylic frame. This gives us an impression of the cord coiling around a void space, which further matches up the symbolism of weightlessness (or lightness) and the light.

Finally, coming to commercial side of affairs, users have to buy the aforementioned acrylic frame and a socket for power. As for the cord, we can provide our own one, or select a whole lamp kit with the options of variant colored wire shades like orange, green, yellow or white.
