When we think of the Dakar Rally, images of fast cars, flying sand, and extreme conditions sweep past in our minds. What we don’t usually imagine is the luxury living following the race across deserts and rough terrain. But that’s exactly what the Shiver x Expandable 6×6 motorhome does. Built to support a professional off-road racing team, this RV proves that even the toughest journeys can be the most comforting.

This special motorhome is built on a heavy-duty MAN 6×6 truck chassis, known for its strength and ability to handle rough roads. Instead of pulling a trailer, the company Expandable Trailers places its 30-foot Pod directly onto the truck. While driving, the Pod looks like a large cargo box, staying within a safe road width. However, once parked, it transforms into something extraordinary.

The real magic happens when the Pod expands. With slide-outs on both sides, the RV almost triples its interior space. The living area grows from a compact 183 square feet to a spacious 452 square feet. That’s more room than many city apartments, especially impressive for a vehicle designed to travel through deserts and rocky landscapes.

Inside, the motorhome is designed for both teamwork and rest. The front section features bunk-style beds for up to six team members, making it perfect for race crews who need proper sleep between stages. Toward the center, there’s a practical kitchen with an induction cooktop, fridge, sink, and storage which is simple, modern, and easy to use.

The rear section is where comfort really shines. A dining and lounge space sits next to large floor-to-ceiling glass windows, filling the RV with natural light and offering stunning views of the surroundings. Multiple tables and seating areas double as dining spots, meeting spaces, or places to relax with a cup of tea after a long day.

For those who want to enjoy the outdoors even more, the RV includes a full-length rooftop deck. Accessible by a foldable spiral staircase, this space is perfect for relaxing, watching sunsets, or simply enjoying fresh air, as it is safely enclosed with railings. The motorhome also includes a well-planned bathroom with separate toilet and shower areas, plus a laundry space with a washer and dryer. Everything is designed to be practical rather than flashy, ensuring it works reliably in remote locations.

Since Dakar routes often run far from cities, the RV is fully off-grid capable. A large battery system and onboard generator provide power without the need for external hookups, keeping lights, appliances, and climate control running smoothly. While this build is custom-made for Shiver Offroad, a professional racing team, a similar expandable Pod alone starts at over $300,000. That does not include the price of the truck or interior fittings. Clearly, this is not an average RV, but it shows how far motorhome design has come.
