North Carolina resident, Isaac Alexander, is known for his larger-than-life holiday decorations. Whether it is the roof-breaking skeleton for Halloween he built in 2024, or this year’s roof-breaking Grinch hand stealing Christmas, which seems to be busting out of Alexander’s roof with a red ornament in hand.
It is a playful, larger-than-life Christmas decoration that adds the twist of Grinchmas to the holiday. The decoration is so realistic that it looks straight out of Whoville.
For this, Alexander used plywood and plywood board, lime green faux fur, Great Stuff expanding foam, some paint, and hardware. He began by forming the Grinch hand from plywood, then came the expanding foam onto some cardboard covering the plywood to give the décor dimension, and lastly, everything was covered with the lime green faux fur.
Alexander began gluing the faux fur from the bottom up, with the fur hair going downward for a life-like look. A red sleeve and white cuff were also added.
Once the Grinch’s hand was complete, he began on its installation on the roof. For this, he cut a plywood square and attached the hand to a pallet to hold it upright. Now, to keep the decoration from sliding down, he also secured it with rope, going to the other side of the sloped roof, where it was attached to a wooden pallet with a sandbag in it.
For finishing touches, Alexander put some shingles on top of the plywood to cover the entire area, giving it an organic look where the Grinch’s hand seems to be breaking through the roof with a Christmas ornament.
