Living spaces are getting smaller by the day, especially in the cities, resulting in demand for space-savvy transforming furniture. You can either rely on brands like IKEA and Divani Santambrogio for such furniture or you can build it yourself like Imgur user Dezei has done. Dezei has built a DIY convertible sofa bed that includes drawers underneath as its exclusive characteristic.

The DIYer has used two premium mattresses, 5-square-meter fabric, 75m of wood boards and 7-square-meter of layered plywood sheets, making the project cost approximately €915 ($1,040). He started with the cushions and then built the base to fit the cushions. Then he built the wooden convertible mechanism for the back-cushion that fits in the base, finally, a total of six drawers were added for storage.

The design of this convertible sofa is interestingly practical. It serves three purposes: can be used for storage, for sitting and for sleeping.

This DIY transforming sofa bed is ideal for apartments and small homes; the only concern is its high development cost – if you may, you can try building one yourself and scale down the cost.
