Cape Town-based architecture and design studio Douglas & Company has launched the new PIPE DREAMS furniture collection. It comprises a daybed, bench and stool and is crafted using leftover materials from a construction site. These furniture pieces sport a cool aesthetic with a terrazzo tile appearance.

The collection uses leftover cross-laminated timber (CLT), high-density chip foam and pink leather. Each furniture piece is crafted in a simple, geometric shape by stacking uniform layers of wood and foam.

The layered fabrication process inspired the form and construction of these new pieces. The material strata is also visible to the eyes, which adds a unique look to the design.

The collection repurposes CLT as it was surplus material from a recent construction project. While chip foam is a unique material made of scrap foam chipped and bonded together.
