The Mid-Century Modern design movement has given us some of the most iconic furniture designs the world has ever seen, including the Eames Lounge Chair and Florence Knoll Sofa. One such classic piece emerging from this design movement is Norway-born Torbjørn Afdal’s Hunter Lounge Chair, which was designed in 1960. The original – which featured a tufted back and seat cushion in leather – has been reimagined by the Norwegian furniture company Eikund in a leaner structure.

Eikund has relaunched the famous Hunter lounge chair with a leather seat pulled taut by buckles. The original piece of plush furniture exhibited its designer’s take on a popular contemporary style of seating coined the “hunting chair.” It was made with solid wood and saddle leather. Afdal’s design featured a minimalistic aesthetic with a fluid and organic form.

Eikund took that subtlety and updated it a little. Staying true to the original chair design, Eikund launched the new version while including the latest innovations in material and processes, furthering its qualities of durability and agelessness. It has organically tanned leather stretched over smooth transitions of wood with solid cast brass buckles holding it in place as edge stitching details adorn it.

The company has recreated the Hunter chair in hardwood, including pale soaped oak and dark oiled walnut or black lacquered oak. The aniline leather saddle comes in natural, black, or cognac color options.

The double-layered saddle leather is stretched around the wood frame with adjustable belts. It features matching edge stitching, which together with brass buckles, offers a simple yet complex piece of furniture. The Hunter lounge chair is a testament to the elegance and agelessness of a highly detailed design and craftsmanship.
