The main inspiration behind making a furniture design should not be restricted to providing unparalleled comfort and functionality – it should also focus on improving the materiality. Take the example of Falabella stool which innovatively utilizes wood material. It is a lovely little piece of furniture created as a tribute to the craftsmanship and love of a carefully chiseled solitaire.

Swedish furniture design company Offecct has commissioned Lucy Kurrein for the project. It’s not their first collaboration as they have already teamed up for the enticing Lucy Sofa earlier.

Lucy Kurrein has a specialization in upholstery, which she had exploited in this stool design. She began her career with an Art Foundation Diploma at the Leeds College of Art and Design and later pursued furniture design at Buckinghamshire University in 2007. Thereafter she joined Matthew Hiltons’ and PearsonLloyds’ all British Royal Designers for Industry and finally set up her own design studio.

Falabella is a small, lightweight stool made from molded plywood. Its name is inspired by the world’s smallest horse. Lucy Kurrein explains, “Falabella is based on a design idea that I have carried with me for a long time, ever since my studies. Although the product may look straightforward and simple, it puts high demands on the manufacturer’s craftsmanship.”

Lucy had a combined passion for art and design along with horses since childhood which inspired her in designing the Falabella stool. Maria Olofsson Karemyr, Brand Manager at Offecct said, “The stool shares similar qualities. It’s user-friendly, dainty and light, and easy to like.”

This stool is sculptural in its expression and easy to move around. Its inviting design makes it a visual delight and a comfy seat. The Falabella stool is available in two colors and there is also an option for an upholstered seat.
