Whether going on a camping trip, picnicking, or just having an outdoor party, portable beverage coolers are very useful. Ice coolers are great but ice starts melting fast if kept for longer or products are not prechilled. A zero-energy cooler that runs on water is perfect to counter this situation. A Massachusetts-based startup named Fenik has come up with the Yuma 60L cooler that lets you cool products using water. It is designed to preserve fruits, vegetables, beverages, dairy products, snacks other perishable things for longer using water rather than ice or electricity.
There’s no need for electricity or ice as the Yuma 60L cooler employs the principle of evaporative cooling to stay cool. The walls are made from a special material called PhaseTek which holds water and keep the food and beverages cool and fresh. Each device has a holding capacity of about four liters and uses 0.5 liters of water per day.
How It Works
The Yuma 60L stores water within the actual walls of the device. These walls are made of a special material called PhaseTek, which allows water vapor to evaporate from the sides of the box without allowing any of the liquid water to leak out. Evaporating water pulls heat energy from the inside of the box decreasing the temperature an average of 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit from ambient conditions, and even more in dry, arid environments!
The Yuma 60L cooler maintains an average temperature of 55-65 Celsius to increase the shelf life of the food when used indoors. Depending on the heat and humidity conditions at a particular place, food inside a Yuma 60L can last 3-5 times longer than food left outside. They can be set up anywhere you want.

The Yuma 60L cooler is simple to use – simply open the door, lift the top to its full height, set up the fiberglass rods into the corners and fill with water. Measuring 2.4 x 17.7 x 4.6 inches, this no-ice, no-electricity cooler folds flat and can be easily carried over to different places.
