Baquio Arquitectura has completed construction of a translucent A-frame cabin located in Mindo, Ecuador. Dubbed as Casa 6-3, the prismatic cabin floats above the quaint Chocó Cloud forest, engulfed in dreamy mist. This picturesque scenery turns the temporary retreat into a sensory sanctuary that dissolves the boundary between cozy indoors and therapeutic nature.
The 4,736-square-foot Casa 6-3 cabin sits atop a triangular support system that gives it a hovering appearance and causes minimal damage to the hilly terrain. The architect used laminated timber to create a strong skeletal framework and draped it with semi-transparent polycarbonate sheets. This striking material combination softly diffuses natural daylight, flushing the cozy interior with a milky white glow.
The shelter’s translucent façade exudes a misty radiance when clouds envelop it completely. It helps the floating structure beautifully disappear into the serene landscape. The cabin maintains a consistent connection with nature, as the calming hues of green foliage and blue sky remain visible inside the cabin through its semi-transparent cladding.
You can admire the natural surroundings in the open air through an extended outdoor platform covered by the angular roof. The therapeutic feeling of cool mist brushing off against your skin and fresh mountain air will rejuvenate you from within. The top-hinged windows bring a refreshing breeze indoors so you can enjoy natural therapy while resting inside the cabin.
The wooden door leads you into the cabin, where you can notice the exposed timber framing left as it is. Its raw texture provides tactile richness while adding a cozy cabin-like feeling. The interior has an open layout with different zones flowing into one another. The floors and walls have the same warm wood tones throughout, and wooden furniture further enhances the material harmony.
The translucent partition wall behind the bedding acts as a divider between the sleeping and living zones. Towards the left corner of the hallway, the space-saving fold-down suspended workspace frees up valuable floor space to walk around the wood-clad dwelling freely. The functional kitchen lies ahead of the bedroom and living zone. It has a wooden countertop with cabinetry that has a lovely ribbed pattern created by the vertical wooden planks.

The integrated storage drawers and multiple cubbies in the corner give easy access to the stored kitchenware. You can even open the window in the front to vent out the smoke and heat during cooking. The integrated refrigerator in the center of the cabinetry and sink with a gooseneck faucet fixed on the countertop grounds the overall material continuity.
The Casa 6-3 cabin was built as a temporary shelter with plans to evolve it into a permanent residence in the future. Baquio Arquitectura intentionally chose cost-effective translucent sheets and timber to make the process of renovation cheaper. Its warm wooden material continuity evokes a cozy and inviting vibe, while forest sounds and breezy mist fill every inch of the cabin.
