United Arab Emirates is home to some of the most interesting and awe-inspiring structures on the planet. These architectural projects are a result of the new era of designers and architects in the UAE dedicated to creating new, spine-chilling experiences. Case in point, Omran Alowais, an Emirati Architect who has taken the internet by storm with his adventure travel concept dubbed the Floating Retreat.

Founder of Dubai-based architecture firm Ardh Architects, Omran has designed this one-of-a-kind lodging facility to offer a thrilling camping experience in the midst of the beautiful Sharjah Mountains. Inspired by the practice of cliff camping, the hospitality project features tents hanging over a V-shaped mountain valley.

As visible in the renderings, the Floating Retreat resembles a huge platform that connects two mountains. You can spot luxury tents hanging off the platform. The designer says these cabins include amenities guests would need for a comfortable stay.

Interestingly, these hanging cabins can be lowered to the ground and raised over to the platform when guests check-in. When raised to the platform, the tents let guests enjoy an exciting and peaceful lodging experience in mid-air. That’s sure to give an adrenaline rush but may involve some risks of falling down, etc.

The Floating Retreat is developed in partnership with Shurooq, a Sharjah Investment and Development Authority. This experimental architecture project is designed to provide an adventurous and modern lodging experience high above the ground. In addition, visitors can also enjoy a variety of activities like mountain climbing and wadi treks during their stay.
