The ’70s was an exciting and glorious time for interior design honed by vivacious colors and shapes. It was also a time when UFO sightings and reports of hovering spacecraft were very common. Designers often seek inspiration in the past as much as in the present, which is what London’s renowned furniture design studio Duffy London has done with its Flying Saucer Coffee Table that beckons to the ’70s nostalgia.

Made from powder-coated mild steel, recycled plastics, and glass, the animated coffee table is drenched in maximalist fashion with pop colors and patterns. The Flying Saucer Coffee Table is designed by Joseph Wonham for Duffy London. The first-edition pieces will be created with Smile Plastics to provide an intriguing range of eye-catching color finishes and quint embellishments.

The innovative and quirky designs are born in Christopher’s mind and are then methodically realized and hand created by his expert team. The flying saucer or UFO-shaped base for the Flying Saucer Coffee Table will evoke the memory of brightly-colored giant gobstoppers.

In an exclusive interview with Homecrux, Christopher Duffy, founder of Duffy London, elucidates his inspiration source for his projects,

“I do read architecture and design magazines; the source of my inspiration is different for every single piece. To design is like having an app or algorithm you have developed the software in your head and each new way to process thought and come out of a new design at the end, is like you programmed or downloaded a new app into your mind…I like to believe that I have developed quite a few of these algorithms over the past 30 years.”
