Focal has launched an upgraded version of its popular Scala Utopia Evo floorstanding speaker, right after the release of the Diva Alta Utopia wireless active speaker system. Following its predecessors, the Scala Utopia Evo M retains a 3-way architecture but includes a redesigned woofer, PRISM tweeter and M-profile W midrange to deliver audiophile-grade sound.
The loudspeaker features an M-profile W midrange driver, derived from the professional Utopia Main range to ensure “exceptional rigidity, ultra-linear frequency response and very low distortion,” claims Focal. Next is the PRISM tweeter combined with IAL technology to deliver “treble reproduction of unmatched purity, finesse and extension.”
Focal has also fully redesigned the W woofer to deliver powerful, deep and controlled bass. The speaker also uses an OPC+ crossover for precise bass and treble adjustment. There is also a Focus Time feature, which ensures drivers are aligned to the listener.
In terms of specifications, this hi-fi loudspeaker combines a 27 cm “W” sandwich membrane woofer with dual 16 cm ferrite magnets, a 13 cm reinforced “W” midrange driver featuring an “M” profile and TMD suspension, and a 27 mm PRISM inverted dome tweeter with “M” profile and IAL2 loading.
The speaker delivers deep, controlled bass down to 24 Hz and an expansive frequency response ranging from 27 Hz to 40 kHz. Focal says the speaker is designed to work with Naim Audio amplification and streaming systems.
The wooden cabinet has remained the same, distinguished by separate anti-vibration enclosures for drivers. With sculptural lines, balanced proportions and the iconic Utopia aesthetic, the speaker is designed to become a true design statement in any space.
Available in lacquered finishes or fine woods, the Focal Scala Utopia Evo M integrates harmoniously into any contemporary interiors. The Scala Utopia Evo M passive loudspeaker is priced at $46,000 per pair in lacquered finish.
