Chinese design studio CL3 collaborated with New York-based architectural firm Lim + Lu for an international project, a few months ago. Both the firms will be working with a group of former students from the College of Architecture, Art and Urbanism at Cornell University, New York to design a furniture collection inspired by the delivery trolleys of New York City. The concept revolves around creating easy-to-move furniture that perfectly adapts according to the urban lifestyle.

Manufactured in Asia, these mobile furniture pieces will be showcased for public use at the university studio in New York. There are wheels on one side of the base of the furniture to push it easily on the road, while rounded metal legs on the other side keep it stable after you place it on the ground. Hence, this wheelbarrow-like furniture can be carried easily to anywhere you like. These urban furniture pieces not only offer sitting space on-the-go but also houses books and other things, while you push it across the path.

Professors Kent Kleinman, Gale and Ira Drukier said;

Each piece is a hybrid: a modular urban element that functions as a kind of mobile infrastructure, coupled with a specific device specific to a particular program. Taken together, they are a microcosm of Cornell’s famous lessons on urbanism.

The collection has a tiny sitting pod, table, cabinet and a big sofa that can be rolled over to set up smaller space for a single person. All the things are useful for urban dwellers and even students who want to organize small meet-ups in college or school. Design and style statement of the furniture series is good but portability could be an issue as it appears quite bulky despite wheeled base.
