GL.iNet has unveiled its newest travel networking solution, Mudi 7 (GL-E5800), at CES 2026. This one is a portable router designed to bring high-performance connectivity anywhere people work, live, or explore. The accessory represents the company’s push into next-generation travel hardware by combining 5G cellular, tri-band Wi-Fi 7, and a suite of features tailored for modern mobile users and demanding networking scenarios.

At the heart of the Mudi 7 is support for 5G NR cellular connectivity with peak speeds of up to 4.67 Gbps, enabling mobile broadband that can rival traditional fixed-line services when the device is used in areas with strong 5G coverage. Built-in eSIM support and dual SIM dual standby make it easy to switch carriers or maintain network redundancy without physical SIM swaps, which is particularly useful for travelers or professionals crossing borders.

Wireless networking performance is delivered through tri-band Wi-Fi 7, the latest Wi-Fi standard designed to support increasingly crowded wireless environments. This includes simultaneous operation on 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, with theoretical maximum throughput figures reaching 5,765 Mbps on the 6 GHz band. Such capacity allows multiple devices to connect with minimal interference, a key advantage when streaming, conferencing, or transferring large files across a portable network.

It also functions as a flexible wired hub, with a 2.5 Gbps Ethernet port that can serve as WAN or LAN for reliable wired connections where available. Two USB-C ports further extend its versatility for USB tethering or power delivery, and the internal 5,380 mAh battery supports up to 13.5 hours of continuous operation, alleviating the need for constant access to power outlets during travel. 30W fast charging helps minimize downtime between uses for power users who cannot afford interruptions.

The 2.8-inch touchscreen provides on-device control of settings and network monitoring without always needing a companion phone or browser interface. This direct interaction simplifies configuration and offers at-a-glance status updates, an approach that sets it apart from many routers that rely solely on web-based dashboards.

Security and privacy are also central to the GL.iNet Mudi 7 experience. The travel router delivers substantial VPN performance, with OpenVPN-DCO throughput up to 700 Mbps, making on-the-go encrypted connections practical even under heavy use. Such capability appeals to business travelers and remote workers who need secure access to corporate networks or private services from public or untrusted networks.
